Preparing for the post-Thanksgiving push

Well, I’m back from Thanksgiving break, and things are as hectic as ever! Two papers, a test, and production night for the Collegian (our school newspaper) ALL this week! Yikesss!!! I have to remind myself that it’ll all be over soon–two weeks of regular classes left, then one week of finals. This semester has gone by sooo fast! I can’t believe it’s already almost time for Christmas break.

Borscht in Ecuador!

My daily diet has consisted of chicken and rice. It is very nice, but a few weeks ago I was ready for a change. I was blessed to have my parents come and visit me in the beginning of November, and they stayed at a guest house of a large mission in Quito. My mom seems to find connections in every nook and cranny of the world, and she somehow made contact with a German Mennonite family living in Quito. Herman Schirmacher, the head of the household, was actually born and raised in Paraguay but then moved to Germany, got married and had five children, moved a few more times, and eventually ended up in Quito with his wife and three kids. He works for HCJB, a large Christian Radio Ministry that stands for Hands of Christ Jesus Blessing. It’s a large operation that also has a hospital, hydropower plant and high school.

Of things to come...

Well it’s been a little while since I blogged last, but I was thinking about all of the cool things coming up the rest of this semester and next semester too, and thought I’d share a little. We watched Die Fledermaus on Thursday night for my voice class and because I’m in the opera and it really made me freak out a little because of how much work I’m going to have to do to do well in this production.

I Can Smell the Thanks Coming

The caf has taken special interest in the meals this week–many of them are based on what is traditionally served for Thanksgiving meals. I like the fact that they have the holiday spirit, but boy is it making me long for my family’s traditional dishes. I can’t wait for Thanksgiving break, a time to be thankful for family and NO SCHOOL!!!
