Today was our last day of interterm! I have enjoyed Astronomy, a class taught by a man who absolutely LOVES the stars (Tracy Tuttle). Our universe is so big, I still can’t fathom it. Because of the cloudy weather, we only were able to observe the nighttime sky a couple times during the month. However, those few times of stargazing were incredible!
During any choir tour we have (sometimes) luxurious evenings at hotels, but often the most cozy, awkward or hilarious stories come from the nights when we stay with members of the host congregations.
The past week was night after night of these stays in Switzerland, France, Germany and the Netherlands.
MLK Day was so amazing. Out of the three years that I have been here at Bethel College, this year was the best ever!
The support that was shown by the Bethel community as a whole is what made an impact on me, because this year the vibe wasn’t such as “oh this day is just for African Americans.” The day is for everyone to celebrate the life of a legend, and this is exactly what occurred on Monday.
Yesterday was Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Every year Bethel College has some type of celebration in honor of Dr. King. This year was a very special celebration. The whole celebration centered around the speech that Dr. King presented on this campus in Memorial Hall about 50 years ago. Bethel was able to locate an audio copy of the speech that Dr. King spoke and professionally restored it along with getting the speech transcribed so all can have access to it.
So, it’s already the middle of interterm classes! Today I just took my midterm for my class, and I honestly cannot believe that we only have 2 more weeks left!
Interterm is a unique aspect of Bethel. During the month of January, students take 1 class every day for the whole month. Usually the classes offered are different than usual semester classes. There are traveling classes (Europe, Costa Rica), different types of English classes (War fiction), some very interesting science classes (astronomy, animal behavior), and even a fun business class (Emerson Meets Management)…just to name a few!
