Beginnings

“The secret to living the life of your dreams is to start living the life of your dreams today, in every little way you possibly can.” – By Mike Dooley

I saw this quote and it made me think about all that college is about, but let me take a minute to introduce myself before I get deeper.

This is my second year at Bethel College and I love it. I grew up just across the tracks in Newton (less then 5 minutes away from campus.) I’m majoring in Communication Arts and minoring in Art and Literary Studies. I hope to use this degree to get a job in journalism. I play basketball and throw in track. Also, I work on the Newspaper staff as the news editor. And lastly I am working this year on campus as an RA (Resident Assistant.) In my free time, I spend it hanging out with friends, watching movies, playing basketball and sleeping. I spend a lot of  time on facebook, my new addiction is Tetris battle.

I chose Bethel for many reasons. One was the fact that it is a small school. You can do as many activities that you want just like in high school. Second, due to the small school and being able to do whatever, I came to throw. The coach here helped a little at my high school, and I was really excited to work with him. Third, I knew my family would really enjoy having me close. Being close I was worried about being too close. But really I am as far away as I want to be.  I see them  quite often, but not so much that I feel like I’m still at home. I feel free and independent. Bethel has turned out to be a great experience.

Ok, now to tie the quote into my intro. Everyone has a dream of what they want to do in the future. College is all about working to be able to do that dream in the future. My dream is to one day work on a magazine, writing, taking pictures, designing, etc. My degree will hopefully help me achieve this dream. Bethel gives you more opportunities to do extra stuff to make your dreams come true. Like this blog will help my resume. Having the more individual time with staff helps add you oppportunities to work and to have fun.
